Mountain Workshops
Mountain Services run a range of workshops aimed at teaching and refreshing skills needed to play & work in the hills & mountains:
- Night-time (poor visibility) navigation
- Confidence on steep ground
- Water for walkers
Each of these workshops make excellent preparation for Mountain Training Award assessments and may count as CPD if you are an association member.
As the nights get darker (Oct-March in the UK) we run our night-nav workshops. Our progressive sessions are well proven (& often imitated) because participants tell us they work & are fun.
- Beginners - ideal if you've never been out in the dark on your own.
- Intermediate - learning to put a strategy together.
- Night Nav Ninjas - the original assessment level fun comp!
It's recommended you do all three - and there's homework inbetween....
We get just as many 'qualified' people as total newbies attending these workshops.
Personal movement on steep ground is a skill - and looking after others an even more important one - but all skills need to be both practiced and kept up to date.
We'll concentrate just as much on staying on your feet, making good route choices and lending a helping hand as we will on rope-work - the aim of the work shop is to make you confident, safe and happy when the ground gets steep.
Probably the most dangerous thing walkers will do is crossing roads & rivers. Hopefully you learnt about roads at an early age - but how do walkers learn when it's safe (or more importantly when it's not) to cross water?
This practical workshop involve:
- Planning
- Assessing conditions
- Getting in the water - the only way to really know!
Safety is paramount and all our instructors hold the relevant qualifications to keep you safe.
